Malaria is a parasitic disease responsible for the deaths of at least a million people every year, 90% of whom live in sub-Saharan Africa, and almost all of these deaths are amongst children (at least a million more deaths occur from malaria related complications such as severe anemia).

However sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets can reduce the incidence of malaria by half – most insect bites from Malaria carrying mosquitos take place at nighttime between 2am and 6am when people are asleep. Sleeping under a malaria net not only prevents insects from biting people but also kills any insects when they make contact with the insecticide-treated nets.
